Simaril Reeds
I’m a freelance oboist, reed maker, and music teacher in the Seattle area. My teaching studio is based in Everett, Washington. Alongside my private studio, I also teach oboe at Seattle Pacific University, Whitworth University, and Gonzaga. I have been selling hand made oboe reeds for the past eight years and greatly enjoy the challenges of creating reeds to suit all types of oboe players. Please contact me for more information about lessons or reeds!
I received my Master of Music Performance degree from Arizona State University, where I studied oboe with Martin Schuring. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Whitworth University, studying both oboe and violin. My teachers were David Dutton (oboe) and Dr. Philip Baldwin (violin). I also studied reed making with David Weber.
Currently, I play principal oboe with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. I previously played second oboe/English horn with the North Corner Chamber Ensemble in Seattle, principal oboe with the Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Scottsdale Philharmonic Orchestra in Arizona, second oboe with Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers in Washington, and second oboe with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra in Idaho. I have performed as soloist with the Northwest Symphony, Seattle Pacific University Wind Ensemble, the Whitworth Symphony Orchestra, the Spokane Symphony, and the Arizona State University String Orchestra.
